TRILOGY MONTH: The Dark Knight Saga (2005-2012)

Note: Because of my own mistake. I accidentally removed July 15ths post. It was the very political one. I might reupload it. But probably not.

I also accidentally deleted the Trilogy Month post for Iron Man. My apologies.
Alo Party Peoples.

Trilogy Month resumes and concludes as we look at Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Saga.

Batman Begins (2005)

I bet you didn't know that there were three of these? Did you? How many people actually saw Batman Begins in theaters?

Anyways I liked it. I like that we get to see how Wayne ended up being able to do what he does without superpowers. I like that we get lots of practical effects. (everything the tumbler does in that movie the car really did) Liam Neeson is great as Ras Al Ghul.

It's great. It feels more like a superhero movie that the other two. Track it down.

A-

The Dark Knight (2008)

The Dark Knight is considered by many to be the best superhero movie ever made. And by some to be the best film period.

Is it the best superhero movie? I probably wouldn't say that. If for no other reason that it didn't feel like a superhero movie. It's a few costume choices and names away from being unrecognizeable as a Batman movie.

It's a complex crime drama first, and a superhero movie second. And a very good crime drama. But I don't need to tell you this. You all saw it when it came out. You all know Heath Ledger owns the part of the Joker. You know it is awesome. You probably already own it.

If I had to find a flaw. Why do they call Harvey Dent Two-Face? It's not like in the comics where he has a split personality. He seems pretty stable until the Joker shows up and blows his girlfriend to kingdom come.

A+

The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

Two out of three ain't bad.

Yeah, it was a dissapointment. They tried, they really tried. But it just doesen't work or fit together in any meaningful way. A lot of dialogue gets devoted to income inequality and police overreach. But it's just text. It doesn't give the film depth. For such a grim and serious film, it oddly avoids being about much of anything.

If you haven't seen it. The ending of the last one was complete enough that, you don't really need more.

C+ (for effort)

Overall Rating: B+ (because of a hollow capstone)

Ben Affleck is playing Batman in 2015, now all we need is Liam Neeson for Doctor Strange. Oh wait, some of you might not know who that is.

Next week I will enlighten you.

Hats off to all. And have a nice day.
